Crazy Food Find of the Day

Dragon Fruit! I mentioned this fruit in a previous blog about the best champagne brunch ever. I found it at the grocery store and couldn't be more surprised about it's outward appearance. It's nothing like the white and black spotted interior. After reading about this fruit online it all made sense to me. It's actually the flower of  certain types of cactus (cacti?), which was an A-HA moment for me because I've had cactus fruit in Mexico and the texture is exactly the same. I knew it tasted familiar! This fruit is native to Mexico, South America and Asian countries. The cactus fruit that I've had was red, not white, juicy and much more flavorful. This spotted one isn't bad either. It's very popular here and is served and sold in most fruit salads as you can see.
